Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings.

In LOTE we have been asked by our Japanese LOTE teacher to write a little bit about the Hiroshima bombings that took place in the final stages of World War II.

Toward the end of World War II, in 1945 America set out to bomb the Japanese. The Americans organised two atomic bombs to be dropped down on the two areas, both taking place at separate times.

 Hiroshima;

The first atomic bomb that hit Hiroshima was dropped on the 6th of August 1945. Since the bomb was atomic, the bomb caused destruction on a massive scale killing 90,000 people and injuring 166,000 people in Hiroshima. In Nagasaki, the bomb that was dropped their killed 60,000 and injuring 80,000. Most injuries consisted of burns. Also a lot of people started to dye of diseases and malnutrition, so they weren’t getting any protein and there food were food was most likely contaminated from the nuclear bomb. The burns suffered were so much more sever and painful compared to just the normal burn we get in daily life from coming into contact with a hot surface. The only building that was pretty much intact and not half falling was the Peace Dome. The Peace Dome is located in Hiroshima and is still free standing today.

Nagasaki:

The second bomb that was dropped in Nagasaki, fell on the 9th of August 1945. In Nagasaki, the bomb that was dropped their killed 60,000 and injuring 80,000. Most injuries consisted of burns. Also a lot of people started to dye of diseases and malnutrition. Six months before the Americans set out to bomb both areas they were intensely firing day in and day out. The American’s also told the Japanese to surrender but the Japanese refused to give up the war that was pretty much had already been won by the American’s. The only building that was pretty much intact and not half falling was the Peace Dome. Nagasaki was the last city to have to experience the destruction caused by the presumably fatal bomb.

Japanese Gardens.

For LOTE with Miss.W we have been learning about Japan. We all had too choose a topic and do a little bit of research about it. I have chosen Japanese gardens because nearly everywhere you go in Japan you always see a beautiful garden. Here is a little bit of my research:

In Japan, no Japanese temple, house or palace is considered complete without some sort of garden. A lot of gardens in japan are considered art because the designs are all different and unique just like the person who is designing it. In Japan there are three different types of gardens: Hill gardens, dry gardens and tea gardens. In Japan ponds, streams and waterfalls are very common in Japanese gardens. Nearly every garden you see in japan have at least some sort of water or something that symbolises water. Water can be symbolised in many different ways but the most common way is too lay down gravel and rake it along to make a pattern of some sort, this symbolises the rippling water.

Hill Gardens:
In hill gardens you find ponds, streams, hills, stones, paths, trees and bridges. Hill gardens create scenery like the natural world. Only because in Japan there are not very many places without huge buildings and thousands of people gathering to get away from the pollution and busy, crowded streets in the centre of the city. Hill gardens are most commonly found along the country side far away from the busy city and crowded streets.

Dry Gardens:
Dry gardens (also known as rock gardens)  are associated with Japanese Buddhism and are usually located at the back or front gardens in Japan. Dry gardens usually consist of rocks and sand. With dry gardens they somehow symbolise the sea in one way or another, the most common way to symbolise the sea is to lay sand or gravel down and rake it along to create a very unique pattern this is used to create the looks of rippling water, but not using water. Plants are not usually very important in these sorts of gardens because they aren’t considered  to have much importance. Dry gardens are one the most unique and different forms of Japanese gardening and most probably the hardest for tourists to understand. Usually only rocks and stone are apart of these gardens. Rocks put in amoungced raked gravel and a few different types of plants and bushes. In dry gardens you don’t put in a lot of grass because grass is mainly featured in other different types of Japanese gardens.

Tea Gardens:
The style of Japanese tea gardens are usually found near restaurants and coffee shops more so then in the back or front yard of your own home. If you have a Japanese style tea garden then you have to have a tea house. Usually you have stepping stones as a path leading up to the garden the grass and trees on opposite sides. Japanese gardens are used for relaxing and friendship, that is how your supposed to feel and the sense of mind to have while your accompanied or not by the feel and seclusion of the tree house type thing. With these sorts of gardens you can have what is called a tea ceremony. A tea ceremony is very important event in Japanese culture, the host spends days going over everything to make sure everything is perfect and all goes to plan without any delemiour.

The Japanese absolutely love flowers. They like locally grown flowers. Chrysanthemums, carnations, roses and orchids are popular imports. But they are not necessarily featured in a traditional Japanese garden.

The widgets on my blog. (:

Miss. W has asked everyone in my class to write a post about five widgets on my blog and why we chose to put them on our blogs. I put my widgets on to give my blog originality, flavour and make it more exciting. As I have said in previous posts, everyone is different and has different interests to their friends and family. You can make your blog your own and explain yourself in heaps of different ways, the kind of widgets you put on your blog does and can really explain alot about yourself. What animal you choose, how you write your post, what sort of things you write about, etc. So i am going to tell you what widgets i have on my blog and why I chose these specific widgets.

My Virtual Pet- The reason why I chose a fox as my pet and I live in Tasmania because I love foxes, I think they are gorgeous creatures that live in packs and rely on teamwork and effort to survive. It would be so hard to find food and hunt prey like they do. You would have to give your all every time.

My Revolver Map- I put a revolver map on my blog because I wanted to see how many visitors I get and where they where coming from. I like to know where all of my visitors are coming from and I would love if they ALL commented on one of my posts or something so we can keep in contact.

Lava Lamp- I chose a lava lamp to put on my blog because they are so very creative! You can mix colours together to create another better colour then the one before, it’s all about experimenting with different things and colours. They are fun to create and give your blog a bit of character.

Flag Counter-  I put a flag counter on my blog also too see where my visitors where coming from. It took me a while to figure out how to put one on my blog. I just recently got my flag counter and myself and everyone else can see my visitors. (:

Custom Glitter Text- I put some glitter writing on my blog because I liked the look of it on other peoples blog and it looked really nice and gave the blog flare and character. They look really good on blogs and are a great asset.

Clock- My clock is something I recently put on my blog, today recently. I put it on my blog because it looks good like the text did and I thought it would have been a great idea to have a clock on your blog so I decided why not.

They are my reasons why I chose the widgets I put on my blog. I enjoy having all of them on here and I hope you enjoy looking at them. They are something different and new compared to everyone elses because they come in all different coulours and you can name your pets and all different kinds of things.

International Blogs I recommend.

Hello to all of my followers,
Today I am reviewing and commenting on five international blogs all around the world and I have picked fiveblogs that really stood out from everyone elses’. You can make your blog stand out in many different ways like the sort of posts you write, your theme, your writing style, etc. Everyone is different and everyone is there own person, most blogs are a self reflecton of you, no one else but you. So before i get my emotions get the better of me here are the few blogs I have chosen:

Kyra- Kyra’s blog has some really great posts on the enviroment and just random things that you most likley wouldn’t find on other blogs that you see. Kyra’s blog really does discribe her. I really do like reading her quirky and different posts.

Amber- I really do like Ambers blog. I enjoy reading her posts, and I also really like how she has given myself and her followers website to go to and edit pictures and insert captions. I like how she is active and has discribed herself really well.

Ben- Ben has some really good posts on space art, space postcards and really good maths posts about what he has been doing in class. I like how he is sharing with everyone what he has been learning in and out of class. Ben writes some really interesting posts and has good widgets on his sidebar.

Zach- I really like how Zach voices his opinions about what he thinks about what’s going on around the world at the moment. That is something I like too see and something that should be appreciated a bit more. I like his most recent post about animals and how alot of animals that are becoming indangered at the moment.

Heather- I really like how Heathers blog is about fairytales! That is something that I never have come across before and I love reading about the imagination and creativity that goes into writing a fairytale. I have alot of things in common with Heather.

I hope to keep incontact with all of these people above.

Netiquette

On Wednesday we had the Bamboo Theatre come down to our school all the way from Sydney.
The play was called Netiquette.
Netiquette was all about cyber Bullying and how to stay safe on the internet and not to fall into people’s traps.
Different people use many different ways to trick you, for example to send them money they might say I am quite poor and I have 3 kids and they are crying because they don’t have any food… But nver fall into these traps. Don’t give this person any personal information about yourself like credit card details, where  you live, what school you go to ect.

They gave us a few senarios of what could happen if you met up with someone who you have been talking to online,
As a senarioa they said that a girl had met up with a person online who said she was a girl named Paige,
But she was really a grown man,
Paige said she was 12.
This character talked a girl into meeting up at a park near by and said you will have alot of fun and there will be other people will be there.
But really he tried to take this young girl to do goodness knows what !

World Maths/Spelling Day.

World Maths day:

Word maths day 2011 was held on the first of March 2011.
World maths day is held all around the world and anyone can play.
I think World maths day can help improve your adding, subtracting, mulitplying and dividing.
And it also is a great opportunity to compete with other people all around the world,
Some are really good at maths, others are alright,
And others not so much.
But it does’nt matter if you aren’t very good at maths you can still have a go.
All up I got 536 points.

World Spelling day:

World Spelling day was held on the 3 of March 2011.
I am a terriffic speller myself,
Not trying to sound cocky but…
I am very good.
I did an alright job though,
I did very much enjoy world Spelling day,
But I think I enjoyed the world maths day much better.
I did very much enjoy both of the days and opportunity to compete against other people from other countries all over The world.

Using images correctly.

Today we are learing about Creative Commons.
We are learing about using images correctly with Miss. W.
You can use websites like FlickrCC.
It is important to use websites like FlickrCC
Because you can’t just use any old picture of Google Images because you can get suid for copy righting
.

The picture you want to use belongs to someone else who has put it on a site like Google images and this person may not want you to use this picture In your blog,
But they might let you as long as you give them credit for the picture.
If you want to use a picture you have too somehow contact the person who put the picture on Google and ask them Can you please use this picture in your blog, remember to give them a reason why you want to use this image.
If they say no,
Then you don’t have permission to use this image so DON’T use it !

It is the same with music,
You have to find out if it is a creative commons document,
It applies with a picture as well,
If it is a Creative Commons picture/piece of music,
Then you can use it with out sending an email.

These are some very good sites that you can get Creative Commons pictures:

FlickrCC, Wylio, Comp fight,Using advanced search on Google.

My interview With Adelaide Dupont(:

Hello fellow bloggers and readers of my blog(:
I would expect that the wonderful Adelaide might have atleast left a comment or two on your blog.
Well I decided just as something to do I asked her just a few questions and here are some of them :

Mikayla: How long have you been blogging for ?

Adelaide:I have been blogging for ten years, since June 2001. I significantly overhauled my blogging platform in 2006.

Mikayla: what are some of your intersets ?
Adelaide: Some of my interests include reading, writing, badminton, bowling, foreign affairs and many other things.

Mikayla: What do you like about blogging ?

Adelaide: I like the connections that you can make with blogging and that you can customise it. Blogging is not static: it keeps on changing, it is dynamic.

Mikayla: What are some things you are looking for in a blog ?

Adelaide: Sometimes a blogger can become a great leader in her field because she communicates well. Others like to hide under the radar.

Thankyou very much Adelaide for your consent to the interview.
